About Cathay Pacific Airlines (CX)

Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. (CPA), also known as Cathay Pacific, is Hong Kong’s flag carrier, having its headquarters and primary hub at Hong Kong International Airport. The airline’s operations and subsidiaries include scheduled passenger and cargo services to over 190 destinations in over 60 countries, as well as codeshares and joint partnerships. Cathay Pacific flights operate to almost 12 destinations, 3 times per week. Cathay Pacific Airlines Network

Cathay Pacific Airways, Hong Kong’s flagship carrier and a founding member of the OneWorld Alliance, was founded in 1946. Cathay Pacific flights connect Hong Kong to 119 destinations in 35 countries worldwide, including 26 cities in China.

Cathay Pacific Flights Fleet 

Airbus A320, Airbus A321, Airbus A321neo, Airbus A330, Airbus A350, and Boeing 777 aircraft make up Cathay Pacific’s fleet. Cathay Pacific Cargo employs two Boeing 747 types. Cathay Dragon, a defunct fully owned subsidiary airline that ceased operations, used to fly to 44 locations in Asia-Pacific from its Hong Kong base. Cathay Pacific, Cathay Pacific Freight, and Dragonair (formerly Cathay Dragon) transported almost 27 million passengers and 1.8 million tonnes of cargo and mail in 2010.

Cathay Pacific has over 25,600 employees. Since November 2019, Patrick Healy has served as Chairman of Cathay Pacific. In addition, he serves as Chairman of Swire Coca-Cola Limited, a Director of John Swire & Sons (H.K.) Limited, and a Non-Executive Director of Swire Properties Limited. Patrick was formerly the Managing Director of Swire Coca-Cola Limited in Hong Kong, where he had served since 2012. Augustus Tang was named Chief Executive Officer in August 2019, and he is responsible for the Cathay Pacific Group’s entire business strategy. He is also a Director of John Swire & Sons (H.K.) Limited and an Executive Director on the Board of Cathay Pacific. Before this, he served as the Chief Executive Officer of Swire subsidiary Hong Kong Engineering Company Limited (HAECO) from 2008. 

On June 1, 2017, Greg Hughes was named Cathay Pacific’s Chief Operations and Service Delivery Officer. He is in charge of the airline’s full service and operational activities, including flight operations, engineering, and customer service. He formerly worked at Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company Limited as a Director and Group Director of Components & Engine Services.

For most Cathay Pacific flights check-in processes (except Cathay Dragon and codeshare partner flights), you can check in online if you have a confirmed reservation:

  • Between 48 and 1.5 hours before your flight’s departure.
  • From 24 to 1.5 hours before the departure of your aircraft from/to LA, Chicago, San Francisco, or New York. Cathay Pacific check-in suggests arriving at the airport at least 2 hours before your flight’s planned departure time to get your boarding pass and check in your luggage:
  • 45 minutes before the Hong Kong departure.
  • Sixty minutes before departure from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, or North America.
  • New York, London, Tel Aviv, Colombo, Dubai, Kolkata, Shanghai, Beijing, Mumbai, and Madrid have 70 minutes before departure.
  • Seventy-five minutes before the scheduled departure from Dubai

Cathay Pacific allows a maximum of (length + breadth + height) 62 linear inches/157 cm Passengers in Economy Class are allowed to weigh up to 44 pounds (20 kilograms). Passengers in Business Class are limited to a maximum weight of 66 lb/30 kg. First Class passengers’ maximum weight is 88 lb/44 kg. If you’re travelling with nail scissors, letter knives, or anything else sharp and pointed, you’ll have to check your luggage. There are limits on some products and items that are completely forbidden to travel with depending on where you fly.
