Bagdogra International Airport, located about 16 kilometers from Siliguri in West Bengal, is a civil enclave of the Indian Air Force’s AFS Bagdogra. Serving popular hill destinations like Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Sikkim, it was designated a customs airport with limited international operations in 2002. In 2019-20, the airport handled 3.2 million passengers, a notable 11.2% increase from the previous year, making it the second busiest in West Bengal. Its rapid expansion is partly due to the absence of sales tax on aviation turbine fuel.
