COVID-19 Vaccination Registration And Certification Complete Guide 2022

The COVID-19 Vaccine Registration process for the vaccination requires users to either visit the COVID Vaccine Registration website, ie. CoWIN or Aarogya Setu App for registration. Currently, two vaccines are being administered, one is Bharat Biotech’s indigenous Covaxin and the other is Oxford-AstraZeneca’s Covashield manufactured by Serum Institute of India (SII) in India. Accordingly, users can register by checking their nearest vaccination centres or you can follow the step-by-step guide given below.

Why is it important for you to get vaccinated for COVID-19?

• The vaccines for COVID 19 are effective and can prevent you from contracting and spreading the virus that causes COVID-19.
• The vaccine also helps protect you from getting seriously ill, even if you are infected with COVID-19.

How to register for Covid-19 vaccination on CoWIN?

• A mobile number or Aadhaar number or any other government identification number has to be fed for online COVID-19 vaccine registration. Once registered, you will get to know the vaccination centers nearby. As the Co-WIN application is GPS-integrated which mean it displays all nearby centers based on your pin code. One can choose the centre and time slot as per his/her convenience.
• Alternatively, you can visit the center without covid-19 vaccination registration, but if the quota for the day is exhausted, the center may ask you for the next day. Vaccination centers have been directed to reserve 40 percent of the dose for already registered recipients and 60 percent for walk-ins or vary from center to center.
• Government hospitals will do the vaccination for free, while in private hospitals a recipient will have to pay a maximum of Rs 250 per dose and it is Rs. 500 for two doses.

Registering on CoWIN platform

1. Go to the option to Register/Sign in yourself on the CoWIN website – https://www.cowin.gov.in/.
2. Register by using your mobile number and then click on the tab to receive OTP. While receiving an OTP, enter it on the website and click on Verify.
3. You will then be taken to the page for covid-19 vaccination registration. Here, enter all the required details including your name, gender, year of birth, proof and then click on register.
4. Once you are registered, you will get the option to schedule an appointment. Next to the name of the registered person, click on the option of Schedule.
5. You will then need to enter your pin code so that all the centres in the pin code area can be shown to you. Then, select the centre, date and time and confirm. Your covid-19 vaccination registration must be completed successfully and you can download your covid registration certificate.

Note: Up to four members can be added through a single login. Moreover, rescheduling an appointment is also easy, and the steps for that are similar to scheduling.

Registering using Aarogya Setu

1. Click on the CoWIN tab on the home screen of the Aarogya Setu app.
2. In this tab, click on COVID Vaccination Registration, and then enter your phone number and then enter an OTP to verify.
3. From here, you will be redirected to the website for covid vaccination registration, followed by the steps provided on the CoWIN platform.

Each beneficiary will have to take two doses of the COVID vaccine. While the second dose of Covexin is to be taken between 28 and 42 days after the first dose, the second dose is to be taken between 28 and 56 days after the first dose of Covishield.

Who is eligible?

Those who will turn 60 will be eligible for COVID vaccination. People over the age of 60 only need proof of age to get the vaccination. They can either register through the covid vaccination app to select a dose or get their dose by walking to the centre with ID proof. Also, if a person registers and chooses a time slot, he/she will not be able to change the centre. For those in the age group of 45-59 years, in addition to age proof, medical documents as proof of co-morbidity will be required.

Which comorbidities are included?

The list of comorbidities is as follows:

• Diabetes (over 10 years of age or with complications) and high blood pressure (must be currently on treatment)
• HIV infection/immune deficiency disease
• Severe respiratory illness, including hospitalization in the last two years
• Heart failures
• People with left ventricular help with end-stage heart disease
• Those who have had heart transplant/kidney transplant/liver transplant/hematopoietic stem cell transplant
• Left ventricular systolic dysfunction, moderate or severe valvular heart disease
• Congenital heart disease with pulmonary arterial hypertension
• Coronary artery disease with high blood pressure or diabetes (on treatment)
• Angina (chest pain) with high blood pressure or diabetes (on treatment)
• Documented stroke case with high blood pressure or diabetes (on treatment)
• End-stage kidney disease on dialysis
• Taking immunosuppressants
• Decompensated cirrhosis
• Leukaemia/Myeloma/Lymphoma
• Sickle cell disease/thalassemia/aplastic anaemia/bone marrow failure
• Suffering from or undergoing treatment for cancer 

People with multiple disabilities: This includes blindness and deafness, acid attacks where the respiratory system is involved, intellectual disabilities, muscular dystrophy, disabilities that require high support.

As per the COVID-19 guidelines, people who have only diabetes or high blood pressure will not be eligible for the COVID vaccination registration. A person aged 45-59 years must have had diabetes for at least the last 10 years or with complications such as heart problems, respiratory problems, kidney problems, or blood pressure. 

Similarly, a person with blindness may not be eligible, but a person with multiple disabilities like blindness and deafness would be eligible. People who require high support because of a disability, for example, paraplegic or quadriplegic, will also be eligible for COVID-19 vaccination registration.

Things to note before the vaccination

• Avoid any medicine: Currently, neither the government nor the vaccine manufacturers have given any specific instructions.
• Any vaccine risk for people with comorbidities: The vaccine is completely safe and effective for people with co-morbidities like diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, kidney disorders, lipid disorders, etc.

What is the COVID vaccine certificate?

• A COVID Vaccine Certificate is proof that you have taken one or both doses of any vaccine approved in the country. The certificate tops whether you have received a single dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, or have been fully vaccinated.
• Details like name, age, gender, address, verified ID and beneficiary ID number appear on the left side of your COVID-19 vaccination certificate.
• On the right all your vaccination details are displayed – which vaccine was taken, on what date and at which vaccination centre.

How to download COVID vaccination certificate with Aadhaar number?

You can download your COVID-19 vaccination certificate online using your Aadhaar number. There are a number of online portals available to download covid vaccination certificates.

• Click on the yellow button Register in Yourself’. Those who are using it for the first time have to register themselves with their Photo ID Proof, ID Number, Name and Year of Birth. These details should be the same as the one you provided at the time of vaccination. Those who have already registered for the vaccination can sign in with an OTP.
• Once you have received your first dose, you will be able to see the ‘Certificate’ option under your name.
• Click on the ‘Certificate’ button to download your COVID vaccination certificate in India.

• The certifications have been linked to Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) which will make them a globally accepted vaccination proof. • To ensure safety, public places such as gardens, restaurants, malls, beaches, cinema halls etc. may be opened exclusively for infected citizens and covid-19 vaccination certificates may be sought on entry. • Passengers will have to carry the RT-PCR negative report taken 48 hours before the start of the journey. It has also exempted fully vaccinated tourists from carrying RT PCR test reports.
• Rapid antigen test on arrival is mandatory. The state has now exempted children below the age of 10 from compulsory testing
• Travellers must have a negative RT-PCR/TrueNAT/CBNAAT report or vaccination certificate older than two weeks (at least one dose) before 72 hours.
• All passengers arriving from Kerala and Maharashtra will have to submit a negative RT-PCR certificate which is not more than 72 hours old. Children below 2 years of age and Short Term Travelers (2 days or less) from Maharashtra with return tickets and children who have completed the COVID 19 Vaccination Certificate will be exempted from the PCR test.
• As more Indians complete their vaccination schedules, more states are expected to relax their rules.

Get vaccinated when possible – if you plan to travel, wait until at least two weeks after vaccination.
