They had an advantage because of the fort’s strategic location at the confluence of the Arabian Sea and the Sal River. The Portuguese later captured and annexed the territory.
On the grounds, there is also an old customs house that the Portuguese built. They built that old house when they later took over the area. In order to restore and preserve such a historic site, sincere efforts are required.
The fort is now completely destroyed, with only a 4 meter defined area and a few benches remaining. The single canon, which boldly stands alone confronting the sea, is the main attraction here. It is pretty much all that’s left of the fort, with most of it buried beneath thick vegetation.
