According to Hindu mythology, the Baghnath Temple happens to be the place where sage Markandeya meditated and worshipped Lord Shiva. Now every year at the time of Makar Sakranti, a large number of devotees visit this holy place and take a holy bath in the confluence of the Gomati and Saryu rivers. This ancient temple is said to be from the times of the 7th century and has Nagara-style architecture and is decorated with brass bells of different sizes. The main shrine is made of stone and is decorated with intricate carvings and designs. You can find images of various gods and goddesses, including Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, and Goddess Parvati. The temple also has two other shrines dedicated to Lord Ganesha and Lord Hanuman.
