Indigo Airlines Baggage Allowance: How Much You Can Carry On Board

IndiGo Airlines Baggage Allowance

Have you ever wondered whether you have more baggage allowances when travelling on an international flight or a domestic one? It’s common for people to assume that international flights offer higher maximums for checked luggage and carry-ons because of the longer duration. The truth is that the rules are precisely the same for both: each passenger is allowed to bring one personal item and one carry-on. Baggage allowances can vary widely. As a result, it’s essential to understand what you’re allowed to bring on the plane and how much is permitted.

The amount of baggage an airline will allow for a particular flight depends on the class you are flying. An airline’s baggage allowance can confuse customers, but it is essential to the overall travel experience. Indigo Airlines baggage allowance is specific regarding the weight and size of the bags that each traveller can bring on board. Here, we’ll explain what does and does not count as a piece of luggage when travelling with an Indigo airline.

IndiGo Airlines

One of the most trusted names in the aviation industry, IndiGo Airlines is a low-cost carrier based in Gurgaon. The airline was founded in 2005 by Rahul Bhatia and Rakesh Gangwal and has consistently grown ever since. India’s largest domestic airline, IndiGo has played a key role in changing the face of air travel in India. IndiGo prides itself on customer service, affordability, and an extensive route network.

IndiGo Airlines Baggage Allowance

IndiGo has simplified the check-in process for its passengers with its new web check-in facility, which allows customers to check-in online without standing in long queues to get their boarding passes. However, the next step is essential and must be followed precisely to ensure a smooth flight.

As per Indigo Airlines baggage allowance policies, passengers can take one checked bag and one personal item with them, and equipment and clothing do not count as separate items. Also, your carry-on baggage should fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you.

Indigo Checked Baggage Allowance

The free checked baggage limit offered by Indigo Airlines has been capped at 15 kg for all domestic flights. For international flights to Bangkok, Kathmandu and Singapore, this limit is 20 kg, while for other international flights to Dubai and Muscat, the limit has been fixed at 30 kg. In addition, the dimensions (L + W + H) of a single piece of luggage are not permitted to exceed 158 cm or 62 inches, and IndiGo allows a maximum weight of 32 kg for one checked baggage.

Indigo Carry-on Baggage Allowance

Every passenger travelling through Indigo Airlines can carry one backpack and one personal belonging like a handbag, one laptop bag, one briefcase etc. According to airline policy, carry-on luggage must fit in the overhead bin or under the seat n in front of the flyer. All carry-on luggage must not weigh more than 7 kg, and its dimensions must not exceed 115 cm. The passenger should not require any assistance lifting the carry-on bag and putting it in the overhead bin during the journey.

Indigo Extra Baggage Charges

In any case, when the baggage exceeds the weight allowed for the free allowance, the passenger is charged a uniform rate of ₹250 per kg, irrespective of the type of baggage, carry-on or checked in. However, it has been fixed at ₹525 per kg of extra baggage for international flights. In addition to the flat rate, Rs 1500 is charged if the luggage is more than 5 kg and weighs more than 10 kg.

In order to facilitate the economical purchase of excess baggage, the following prepaid additional baggage slabs are offered by Indigo Airlines to international passengers:

Hey. Can I combine my luggage if I have a common pnr? For example, I have 4 tickets on a pnr. Can I have combined luggage of 40 kgs of 3 different suitcases

    1. Renu Dahiya says:

      Hello Nithya ji,

Thank you for reaching out. The baggage allowance is based on the passenger’s booking and cannot be pooled or shared with anyone. However, if you have a booking with multiple members under a single PNR (also known as a split PNR booking), you can combine the baggage allowance for all passengers. Rest, we recommend you to directly contact the concerned airline’s customer service for better understanding. Hope this helps!

  3. Rahul says:

I will be travelling on Indigo from baku to mangalore for a 1 month vacation. As there are no direct flights to mangalore, i will be travelling on 2 pnr’s. First being baku to bangalore via delhi and the second being bangalore to mangalore. I have 30 kgs of baggage allowance till bangalore. Will the international baggage allowance of international flight from first pnr apply to my second pnr as well?? In my second journey i am having 15 kgs only. Pls let me know.

    1. Heena Ganotra says:

      Hello Rahul ji,

In your case, if you have a 30 kg baggage allowance on your international flight from Baku to Bangalore via Delhi, this allowance typically applies only for that specific journey. When you board your domestic flight from Bangalore to Mangalore, which is on a separate PNR, you will be subject to IndiGo’s domestic baggage allowance policy. IndiGo’s domestic baggage allowance usually permits a certain weight limit for checked baggage, which can vary depending on the fare type you’ve booked. Since you mentioned having 15 kgs for your second journey, it’s essential to confirm the specific baggage allowance for your domestic IndiGo flight from Bangalore to Mangalore based on your ticket type.
