SpiceJet Baggage Allowance

Sprinting through the airport to make a connecting flight is no fun, especially when you have to lug your heavy luggage with you. What’s even more frustrating is arriving at your destination only to find out that your airline doesn’t allow you to bring your carry-on bag on the plane. This can be a huge headache, especially if you’re travelling overseas and don’t have time to shop for new clothes and toiletries. In case you are wondering how much luggage you can carry on your trip with SpiceJet, we have listed complete details on SpiceJet baggage allowance below!

Being a budget airline, SpiceJet offers low-cost air travel in India. It provides several attractive features, including a relatively low baggage allowance. This blog post will give you an idea about the SpiceJet baggage allowance policy and its comparison with other budget airlines.

About SpiceJet Airlines

Since the start of operations in May 2005, SpiceJet Airlines has always been a low-cost airline. Based in Gurgaon, India, the airline operates a fleet of Boeing 737 and Airbus A340 aircraft. The airline operates more than 630 daily flights, including 54 domestic and 15 international destinations. Also, offering some of the lowest fares in the market, this no-frills carrier has become one of the most preferred airlines for passengers travelling on a budget.

SpiceJet Baggage Allowance

Low fares are not the only reason for SpiceJet Airlines’ growing popularity. The airline is also known for its generous baggage allowance policy, allowing passengers to check-in comfortably without paying any extra charges. All passengers can carry one piece of check-in baggage and one small cabin bag for free. If a passenger exceeds the SpiceJet baggage allowance, they will be charged a fee for each additional kilogram.

SpiceJet Cabin Or Hand Baggage Allowance

SpiceJet offers generous cabin baggage allowances for both domestic and international flights. In addition, each passenger is allowed a maximum of one piece of hand baggage. Furthermore, all items must fit comfortably inside the hand baggage without dangerously obstructing other passengers’ view. SpiceJet baggage allowance policy states that any item too big to work in a standard cabin bag will be considered part of your check-in baggage allowance.

FlightNo Of PiecesMaximum WeightDimensions (Size)
Boeing Flights1 piece; laptop bag/ ladies purse/ duty free shopping bags7 kg55 cm + 35 cm + 25 cm (L+W+H; total 115 cm)
Bombardier Flights1 piece; laptop bag/ ladies purse/ duty free shopping bags7 kg 50 cm + 35 cm + 23 cm (L+W+H; total 108 cm or 42.5 inches)

** SpiceJet Baggage Allowance Policy is the same for both domestic and international flights.

** No cabin baggage is allowed on flights from Jammu, Leh, and Srinagar.

SpiceJet Check-In Baggage Allowance

If you’re flying with Spicejet, be sure to check your baggage allowance before heading to the airport.

Domestic Flights Check-In Baggage Allowance

Make sure you don’t weigh yourself down with too much luggage – SpiceJet’s domestic baggage allowance policy allows you to carry one piece of free checked-in baggage per passenger, up to 15 kg. However, make sure it doesn’t exceed the overall size of 158 cm (length + width + height, for all domestic flights.

International Flights Check-In Baggage Allowance

Passengers travelling from India are allowed to take two pieces of free checked-in baggage on all international flights.

Checked-in baggage weight allowances based on the international destinations:

FlightFree Baggage Allowance
India to Malé20 kg
India to Muscat30 kg
India to Bangkok20 kg
India to Colombo30 kg
India to Dubai30 kg
India to Ras al Khaimah30 kg

India to Kuwait30 kg
India to Chattogram20 kg
India to Hong Kong30 kg
India to Jeddah25 kg
India to Riyadh25 kg
India to Sharjah30 kg
International to International via India on SpiceJet flight30 kg

If you’re travelling with less than the permitted weight, less than 15 kg on a domestic flight and 20-30 kg on an international flight, your baggage balance cannot be adjusted to reflect that. Also, all passengers travelling under the same PNR are allowed to club their check-in baggage, and each bag must not weigh more than 32 kg, as per airport baggage allowance restrictions.

As per the SpiceJet baggage allowance policy, the airline is not responsible for any unsuitable baggage for transport, such as perishable or fragile items. Along with that, the airline is not responsible for minor damage to baggage caused by normal wear and tear or water damage to non-waterproof items.

Infant Baggage Allowance

In addition to your carry-on and checked luggage, you are allowed to bring an extra bag on the plane with you if you’re flying with a child. This extra piece of luggage can weigh up to 10 kg, so it’s a great way to bring along all of your child’s necessities without worrying about exceeding your baggage weight limit. Just label the bag prominently as “extra luggage for the child” so that airport personnel don’t try to weigh it as part of your other belongings.

SpiceJet Excess Baggage Allowance

Passengers flying SpiceJet international flights are allowed to check-in baggage up to a specific weight limit without worrying about paying extra baggage fees. But, if you’re travelling with more luggage, you must pay some extra bucks during your journey; you can purchase your excess baggage online, through Reservations or at the Airport Ticketing counters. Make sure you do this at least 6 hours before your flight leaves. Be sure to weigh your luggage before arriving at the airport to avoid surprises!

When traveling with TV via Spicejet, you’ll have to pay INR 1200 for Domestic (within India) routes and INR 2500 for International (Ex-India). 1. Pawanpreet Kaur says:

      Hi Avinash,

Since your airline is different, the baggage allowance will vary from airline to airline. However, if the second flight has not been booked by you and it is the general change of planes than you do not have to worry about the same. But, if these are two different flights then baggage allowance will vary from one to another. We still suggest you get in touch with the travel agency you have booked your tickets with or with the customer support of the respective airlines for better clarification.

  22. Ken Perez says:

I am connecting in Delhi to a domestic SpiceJet flight to Guwahati. My international flight arriving into Delhi is from London on British Airways. I will have two checked bags each approximately 21 kg. What would the excess baggage charges be for the domestic flight from Delhi to Guwahati? I am assuming the excess baggage charges would be for 28 kg(2 x 21 less 15kg) plus a fee for one additional bag. Is that correct?

    1. Navneet Kaur says:

      Hello Ken Perez,

Since you have two pieces of luggage weighing a total of 21 kg (each), you will need to purchase an additional baggage allowance of 27 kg for your connecting flight.
For future travel, you may contact us for assistance with booking flights at a reasonable price.

      Thanks & Regards
      Team Travanya

      1. Ken Perez says:

Thanks for your reply. There are two options for the SpiceJet Excess Baggage purchase section. The first option is for 30kg at 13,500 INR. The second option is the “International Connection” rate which for 30kg is substantially lower at 3,000 INR. Since I am making an international to domestic connection does the lower international connection rate apply even though my international flight was not with SpiceJet but instead with British Airways? The second question I have is since the domestic SpiceJet flight includes only one checked bag is it also necessary that I purchase the “Additional Baggage” option at 900 INR since I have two bags? Or would the purchase of the 30kg excess baggage cover both bags without the need to purchase the additional baggage option?

        1. Navneet Kaur says:

          Hello Ken,
Since this is a very technical query, we’d say it is not within our knowledge yet. Please be advised to call the SpiceJet helpline number (0124-498-3410) so they can guide you well.
          Thanks
          Team Travanya

  23. Katara says:

    1. Navneet Kaur says:

      Hello Katara,

Yes, acrylic paints are safe to fly with because they are not flammable. However, you must pack them properly to avoid any problems with TSA at the airport. Also, it is always best to check with the airline before packing any acrylic paints in your bag.

      Thanks & Regards,
