Go First Announce 42 Weekly Flights Goas New Airport

Effective January 2023, Go First will begin its inaugural schedule of 42 weekly flights from Mopa International Airport (GOX) to Mumbai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad. Go First is the second domestic airline to launch services at GOX after IndiGo’s 168 weekly flights. As Goa’s newest airport prepares for its first flight, Go First is looking forward to serving the region.

The announcement was made on 11 December 2022 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi who arrived in Goa to inaugurate Mopa International Airport (GOX). The New Goa Airport is built to reduce the burden on the aging Dabolim Airport (GOI) and increase capacity for one of India’s busiest leisure cities, two airlines have already announced additional flights to this destination.

Go First has declared that it will operate 42 weekly take-offs to GOX from 5th January 2023. This is in addition to the 65 weekly trips from Dabolim/Goa International Airport. Travellers can expect near-daily flights from Mumbai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad to the North Goa airport. Kaushik Khona, CEO of Go First, expressed his excitement about the new Mopa International Airport, stating that it will be a great addition to the region. He also stated that Goa is a highly important destination for the airline and they are more than delighted with this new addition for better connectivity.

More Than 200 Flights Every Week Since Launch

IndiGo, a budget giant, has seized the opportunity to expand its operations in Goa by launching its largest-ever inaugural station at GOX. The Indigo’s 168 weekly flight schedule from Goa’s Mopa airport is already in the news. The carrier has offered flights to 8 destinations, namely Delhi (DEL), Mumbai (BOM), Bangalore (BLR), Hyderabad (HYD), Chennai (MAA), Pune (PNQ), Jaipur (JAI) and Ahmedabad (AMD).

The popularity of Goa as a tourist destination is evident with the fact that Dabolim Airport is not currently reducing operations of both its operators, indicating strong demand. Millions of domestic and foreign travellers have visited the tourism hub after the pandemic and long before, with flights provided by Spicejet, Air India, Air Asia, and Qatar Airways.

Oman Air has become the first international operator to announce plans to fly to Mopa International Airport, with a 4x weekly service from Muscat to GOX starting 31st January, 2023. This is expected to be the first of many flights to the city in anticipation of the New Goa Airport’s opening on 5th January 2023. Excitement is building for the launch of this new airport.

Travel Demand Is On The Rise

December has seen Indian aviation reach its highest traffic levels since prior to the pandemic, with around 400,000 passengers traveling for the winter holidays. Nonetheless, this surge in demand has posed challenges, particularly with Delhi Airport having to potentially cut peak-hour flights to manage passenger queues. With Goa introducing its new airport in December, the additional passenger capacity has reduced the pressure on GOI, giving it a huge relief and better flying options for travellers.
