More Flights Launched To Northeastern States For Better Air Connectivity

Minister of Civil Aviation and Steel Jyotiraditya Scindia, along with General (Dr) VK Singh (Retd.) MoS for Civil Aviation and Road Transport and Highways, on Tuesday, inaugurated three new flights to increase connectivity in the Northeastern Region. This move is expected to boost tourism and trade in the region.

On 28 November, IndiGo commenced the Itanagar-Mumbai flight via Kolkata. On 29 November, Alliance Air launched the Dibrugarh-Itanagar-Ziro flight. Then on 30 November, Alliance Air will operate the Dibrugarh-Itanagar-Pasighat flight, making a total of three new flights.

Itanagar-Mumbai flight

IndiGo has announced its first flight from Donyi Polo Airport at Hollongi, Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh. This marks the 75th domestic destination and the 101st overall destination in the IndiGo network. Additionally, the second frequency between Kolkata and Itanagar will commence on December 3.

Dibrugarh-Itanagar-Ziro route and Dibrugarh-Itanagar-Pasighat flights

On 29 Nov, a Dornier 228 aircraft, made by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), took off from Dibrugarh at 10.20 am and landed at the newly constructed Hollongi airport in Itanagar at 11.10 am. After a brief stay, the plane left Itanagar at 11.30 am and reached Ziro at 12.05 pm. The flight service will be available twice a week, with the second service between Dibrugarh, Itanagar and Pasighat scheduled to commence on Wednesday. 

Earlier this month, Union Minister of Civil Aviation Hardeep Singh Puri inaugurated three other flights that connected five Northeastern states–Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Mizoram. Two of the three flights, on the Imphal-Aizawl-Imphal; Lilabari-Ziro-Lilabari, and Shillong-Lilabari-Shillong routes, are operated under the government’s Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS).

At the inauguration, Mr Scindia commented that the Modi government has taken unprecedented steps to prioritize the Northeastern states in the last eight years. The Prime Minister has the vision to bring air connectivity to all parts of the nation, and we are working together with all states to make this a reality. This will include not only major cities but also advanced landing grounds in remote, tier 2, and tier 3 cities.
